Celebrating the life of

Donna DiGioia Katula

July 09, 1959 - December 08, 2024

Donna DiGioia Katula

Donna DiGioia Katula, 65, of Savannah, GA passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. Donna was born in Monessen, PA on July 7th, 1959, to the late Phillip DiGioia and Josephine (Tegnelia) DiGioia. Her first marriage was to Robert Fleming, and she later married the late George Katula. Donna is survived by her children; Michael (Haley) Fleming of Forsyth, GA and Sarah Katula of Raritan, NJ, her granddaughter Mahaila Fleming, her mother, Josephine DiGioia, sister Diane (Steve) Beninato, her brother Richard (Angelia) DiGioia, and multiple nieces and nephews. Donna is a 1977 graduate of Ringgold High School, Monongahela Campus and went on to attend Case Western Reserve University and receive her degree in Chemical Engineering. She later moved to Savannah, GA where she pursued her career with International Paper (formerly Union Camp) for over 25 years. She was an active member of Saint James the Less Catholic Church where she performed with the church choir to foster her love of music. Additionally, she was a member of the 13th Colony Sound barbershop group. Donna enjoyed spending time cooking and baking for her family. She shared that love with her children through her homemade cookbook with all the family recipes. She was also an avid traveler, having done an African Safari with her mom, explored the UK with George, and visited France and Italy with her children. Donna’s personality was just like her clothing: she always brought brightness and color to the room. In addition to her immense kindness and generosity, she could always be counted on to make those around her laugh. Donna’s wit and humor were unparalleled, and she was able to bring a smile to your face even in the hardest of times.

A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint James the Less Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14th, 2024

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Donna’s memory to the cureCADASIL foundation at www.curecadasil.org

A candle has been lit!

I always knew Donna had a special strength and trust in our Creator that took her through the best and the worst of times. May all who are a part of Donna’s life receive comfort and peace to celebrate the life she lived. I am blessed to have known her as a friend.

A candle has been lit!

Our deepest condolences to Donna’s family and friends. Donna was a woman of integrity, courage, and determination. We knew Donna early in her career starting in Franklin, VA. We reconnected in Savannah where we worked for Union Camp. We attended her wedding to George. Donna was very successful in a challenging occupation in a very demanding industry. She balanced her career while being a dedicated wife, raising two very successful children and remaining connected to her extended family. All the while contributing her singing talents to our St James Parish choir and a barbershop ensemble. The following quote captures Donna: “I have competed well: I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, …” 2 Timothy 4:7-8a Former colleagues Marie Goulet and Tim Kean

- Marie A Goulet, Savannah, GA
